Bandai Namco has announced a current-gen remaster of the original Dark Souls due out later this year.
During today’s long-rumored, yet brief, Nintendo Direct—called a Nintendo Direct Mini—Bandai Namco revealed developer From Software’s first Switch title.
Nintendo only facilitated the reveal though, as the remaster will also be coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This new and improved version of Dark Souls will light its way to release May 25, 2018, with more specifics to come before then.
The trailer that coupled the announcement was simple enough, showing only a slow zoom-in on an extinguished fire. A knight soon approaches the campfire and ignites it as the words “Dark Souls Remastered” come into view.
With the details Bandai Namco has released so far, players can look forward to a completely enhanced version of the game.
Dark Souls Remastered will receive graphical enhancements across the board as well as the aim to hit 60 frames per second. Along with the visual enhancements, the game will include the DLC from the first game, ‘Artorias of the Abyss.’
PlayStation 4 owners will be getting some exclusive bonuses of their own, too, as alongside today’s announcement came the unveiling of a Dark Souls box set. The box set will include all three Dark Souls games, each respective game’s soundtrack, framed art, Dark Souls themed bookends, and three dictionaries containing the entirety of Dark Souls item list.
The collection is a bit pricey, however, sitting at about USD$450.
From Software’s involvement in the Switch’s library has been hinted at since the early days of the Switch’s announcement. The inclusion of the Dark Souls franchise in the ever-growing catalogue of Switch games goes right along with Nintendo’s decision to include more mature titles like Doom and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
