ESPN BRASIL were forced to make a U-turn after claiming Liverpool were going to take Nike to court following their "announcement" of Philippe Coutinho's Barcelona transfer.
In a hugely embarrassing gaffe for the American company, Nike had advertised on their website that the 25-year-old had completed his switch to the Nou Camp.
Despite Nike taking the post down, the Merseyside club are believed to be furious over the incident.
ESPN Brasil claimed Liverpool would take the Spanish side to court but the outlet later admitted they had made a mistake.
Nike offered customers to buy Barcelona shirts with the Brazilian playmaker's name on it, along with the headline 'Where the magic happens'.
While the advert read: "Philippe Coutinho is ready to shine at the Camp Nou.
